THE recently-concluded inaugural Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Women’s Champions League held in Port Moresby was an electrifying event that showcased the remarkable talent and passion for women’s football in the Oceania region.


Taking place from June 1st to 10th, the tournament marked a significant milestone in the development and recognition of women’s football in Oceania.
Port Moresby, with its vibrant atmosphere, served as an excellent host city for the competition, welcoming teams from various nations in the confederation.


The tournament brought together top women’s football clubs from across Oceania, providing them with an exceptional platform to display their skills and compete for the highly-coveted championship title.
Throughout the tournament, spectators were treated to captivating matches filled with thrilling goals, displays of athleticism, and intense competition.


The participating teams exhibited exceptional talent and determination, showcasing the growing strength and quality of women’s football in the region.

The tournament concluded with AS Academy Feminine emerging as the undefeated champions, defeating Hekeri United FC 2-1 in their tournament opener, followed by the defeat of Kiwi FC 5-0, Labasa 1-4 and Koloale FC 1-4.
AS Academy Feminine’s victory secured their place in history as the first team to lift the coveted trophy in Port Moresby.


Their remarkable achievement not only showcased their exceptional talent and skill but also highlighted their unwavering determination and teamwork.
AS Academy Feminine dominated the field, captivating spectators with their impressive performances.
Their undefeated run throughout the tournament stands as a testament to their strategic play, disciplined defense, and clinical finishing in front of the sticks.


ASAF’s triumph signifies the rise of women’s football in the region and serves as an inspirational story for women footballers in New Caledonia, the home country of the 2023 OWCL champions.
Coach Coralie Bretegnier and co-founder of AS Academy, Feminie Chritelle Wahnawe expressed great pride in playing and bringing the victory back home to New Caledonia.


She acknowledged that the level of competition in New Caledonia is relatively low, making their success against other Pacific Island nations even more impactful and encouraging for the sport back home.
The victory not only inspires the club but also motivates young girls to begin playing football, raising the overall skill level and aspiring to reach the heights achieved by AS Academy Feminine.
