A landslide occurred near Kwimimanda village few kilometers outside of Wapenamanda Airport which is blocking the main Highlands Highway causing a major traffic congestion this morning.
The landslide has blocked off the main Highlands Highway causing vehicles on both sides to remain stranded.
In the meantime, call has been sent to the Provincial Works Division to clear up the road as soon as possible.
It is understood that the road will be cleared for the public to use by midday today.
With ongoing tribal fighting happening along these areas, the public is reminded that the road block is not related to the tribal fighting but commuters and the general public are urged to remain vigilant while traveling in this part of the Highlands Highway.
The landslide occurred near the tribal boundaries of the Kaekin and Itokon clans with both clans directly involved in the ongoing tribal fighting in the Wapenamanda District, the situation is closely monitored by security forces on the ground.
