HELA Governor Philip Undialu has commended Telefomin Member of Parliament (MP) and Works and Highways Minister Solan Mirisim for providing an astute leadership at the national and district levels.
At national level, Undialu said Mirisim provides vibrant leadership that can make or break the government.
“When he (Mirisim) says the Marape-Rosso Government will remain until 2027, he means it because he knows what’s best for the people of Telefomin and the country,” the governor said.
“I know (of a) few other leaders before Mirisim who had their own dreams to implement government services in the isolated (Telefomin) district.
“Those leaders were momentary and left without fulfilling their aspirations but God has now blessed you (Telefomin) with a strong leader who has led you for three terms.”
Undialu said Mirisim has managed to deliver to the people of Telefomin the much-needed road access.
He thanked the people of Telefomin for having confidence in Mirisim’s leadership and allowing him to remain over the last three terms of Parliament.
“I know him (Mirisim) well; he is strong, honest and a community-oriented man,” Undialu said.
“His leadership speaks volumes; this is the kind of leadership that we need in all parts of the country.
“Telefomin will never be the same again because you have a strong vibrant leader, and today’s occasion is the beginning of many good things to come.
“It was predestined that Prime Minister James Marape unknowingly chose someone who was brought up in remote district like Telefomin to be in charge of the Ministry of Works and Highways.
“It was a blessing in disguise.”
He said if the ministry had been given to urban-based MPs, their priority would have been on city roads.
“Acknowledge God in your hearts, look after the contractors and road, acknowledge your MP and Government, and let us work together to make Telefomin progress for Papua New Guinea,” Undialu said.
He announced the Hela Provincial Government’s continued commitment to have the Tabubil-Telefomin road continue to Oksapmin, then to Kopiago to link Hela Province.
Undialu pledged to support the MP ensure the road is delivered for the people of Telefomin, Hela and Western provinces.
Undialu also pledged funding of K200, 000 to build a double classroom for Urapmin Primary School.
