The plot in overthrowing the legitimate Marape–Rosso Government is backfiring.
Not only that MPs are returning into the Pangu house, but more importantly, the remnants of the Jan 10 mayhem that crippled this bustling metropolis of the Pacific to its knees lingers on and will remain buttressed in the dark faculties of mind of the plotters.
It was all ‘a good for nothing but disaster’ game they played at great cost to Papua New Guinea. Instead, it was to the advantage of Prime Minister, James Marape who has since gained more sympathy than condemnation from the wider PNG and abroad.
No Magic Pill
Why the sympathies? Because the fact remains: even a new Prime Minister has “no magic pill” for the cure of PNG’s woes overnight. In 48 years, we have changed Governments through Vote of No Confidence (VoNC) 18 times. We were busy “playing politics” and “not building the economy”. Thirty seven (37) countries by passed PNG in 37 years in United Nations’s Human Development Index (HDI). In 1975 the economy was at K5 billion. When Marape took over Government in 2019, the economy was at K79 billion. Today under PM Marape, the economy has grown to K110 billion and envisaged to further grow to K200 billion by 2030 with the booster five new major projects on stream. The “magic pill” is STABILITY in Government rather than VoNC on Prime Ministers.
Australian Sympathy
For the record, PM Marape became the first in PNG and Pacific to address the joint house in the Australian Federal Parliament on Feb 8 where he paid tribute to colonialism instead of criticizing it and caused tears and as well as sympathy of the Australian people in realizing their importance “in the values and great Australia character” in them.
“Prime Minister, James Marape actually reminded us of the values and great Australian character, I think we are losing it,” said Andrew Bolt, Sky News commentator.
“I was struck and, like I say, moved by the praise that he gave to Australia and our colonial past, the sort of praise that Labor and the Greens never would”.
Andrew Bolt is a conservative social and political commentator. His work is also published in The Herald Sun and Weekly Times. In Australia, Bolt is a controversial public figure, who has frequently been accused of abrasive demeanour, racist views and inappropriate remarks on various political and social issues.
Repair Bill
The perpetrators’ scheme not only failed but raises a repair bill at billion kina mark. The perpetrators caused the suspensions of four departmental heads, disciplinary charges on more than 50 policemen including the Police Union President, Lowa Tambua who incited the riot and caused the losses of jobs for more than 4,000 supermarket workers whose innocent families must now suffer the consequences.

Prime Minister James Marape said the numbers will continue to increase as we reach Tuesday, Feb 13 when Parliament resumes at 2pm.
With United Resources Party, Social Democratic Party and other coalition parties and Independent MPs adding on, the numbers on the Government side stands rock-solid above 60, ready and enough to defeat any onslaught of a VoNC even before it is started.
