ABG Public Servants to undergo training through SILAG

THE Autonomous Bougainville Government (ABG) Public Servants will be benefiting from the South Pacific Brewery Foundation (SPBF) Inc. funded training through the Somare Institute of Leadership and Governance (SILAG).

The Certificate in Leadership and Governance Course is a tailored and targeted leadership training program designed and delivered by the SILAG and funded by the SPBF Inc. under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement between PNG Government and South Pacific SP Brewery.

The SPBF Inc. annually sponsors the program as part of its Corporate Responsibility (CSR) since its establishment in 2017.

They have again funded K250 000 this year to SILAG to provide “The Certificate in Leadership and Governance” Course to the public servants of ABG.

SILAG Chief Executive Officer Micheal Barobe acknowledged the good-will gesture and kind support that SP Brewery have been undertaking.

“This is a very important program in the public services in the country.

“We appreciate SP Brewery through the SP Brewery Foundation Inc. to come onboard to facilitate the training of public servants so that they become leaders at the districts or provinces,” he said.

Mr. Barobe further highlighted that SILAG and ABG have a partnership already and have established an office down at Bougainville.

“For this 7th Cohort of the implementation of this partnership program, we have agreed and decided to offer this program only to Bougainville alone.

“SPBF’s intention under the PPP arrangement, is to train and prepare young Public Servants between the ages of 25 and 35 to be leaders in the public service, especially at the sub-national level.

“The partnership is proud to have achieved this milestone by covering all the four regions of the country through this leadership training program over the last five years,” he stressed.

SP Brewery Corporate Affairs Director John Nilkare Jr highlighted that the scholarship program have already reached the 4 regions in the country and now is only targeted for the Bougainvilleans.

“One of the things we do is Sustainability Agenda which is shaped around United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG), it’s about 17 of them.

“This particular program we are doing falls under UNSDG No 16 which is about ‘Building Strong Institutions.

“That’s what this scholarship program is about building strong institutions, equipping people, and building their capacity so when they go out to their place of work, they can embrace good governance leadership and stewardships.”

Inspector Silvester Banibia of the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary (RPNGC) is a living testimony of this program.

Inspector Banibia said he was only a Constable, coordinating programs for Police Officers to go to school to further broaden their knowledge when he was shortlisted for this program.

He said the training has shaped him well and prepared him in terms governance to lead.

“It gives us the preparedness, in terms of governance to lead.

“I learned a lot from this program, it has shaped me to be who I am today and I am grateful.

“Important things I learned from the program is to be a speaker without being offensive and a listener without being defensive,” Mr. Banibia said.
