By DALCY LULUA

GORDON Secondary School has received K18,000 worth of building supplies from the Indian High Commission for its school infrastructure.

Indian High Commissioner to PNG, His Excellency Shri Inbasekar, made a promise to the school two years ago during a visit and committed K200,000-K250,0000 to build a classroom, internet technology (IT) lab or any school infrastructure.

“We supplied around K18,000 worth of building material to help build a classroom or school infrastructure to show our goodwill,” he said.

“This is just the 10% of the grant, the main grant will come.

“This is to show India’s goodwill.”

High Commissioner Inbasekar said there were free scholarships which the Indian Government provides for those who wish to study in India.

“Study well and go to the college, there are scholarships available to study in India,” he said.

“The Indian Government scholarship will cover travel, visa, food and accommodation, tuition fees and study materials – everything will be free.”

Gordon Secondary School Principal George Kenega thanked the Indian High Commission for the donation.

“The Indian High Commission has made a lot of donations to other schools and organizations and we are glad to part of the recipient group,” he said.

“Students here now have the privilege of Indian government scholarships and I am happy that students will benefit from such arrangements.

“But students must play their part by scoring good grades.”

We at the Indian high commission wat to train you, study well and go to the college, you will have scholarship to go study at India. The scholarship is called High Tech scholarship, we’ll provide to and from ticket, we’ll put provide visa, food and accommodation, tuition fees, study material and everything will be free.

Study well and enter college. We Indians also have excess poverty as you, we were one of the poorest countries in 1947 when we got Independence from Britain. Now, in 2022 we are the 5th largest economy in the world, in another 4/5 years we are going to be the third largest economy in the world, and these are all achieved by the hard work of our Indian people.

Work hard, nothing will ever remain permanent
I made a promise in 2021 to Gordons Secondary School that I will try to build a classroom, IT lab or any education facility that will be a gift or donation of K200 or K250 thousand Kina, a grant that will take its own time. Meantime, I didn’t want to wait for such a long time, its already 2 and a half years so within my limited grant which I have.

We supplied around K18 thousand Kina of building material to help him build a classroom or school infrastructure to show our goodwill. This is just the 10% of the grant, the main grant will come. This is to show a goodwill that India means something.
