FIVE (5) students’ representatives of the University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) Enga Student Association (ESA) have departed Port Moresby today to deliver their share of relief support to the people of Mulitaka who were affected by the recent massive landslide.

ESA President Elizah Tengen said the students’ leaders are traveling to Enga to donate items worth about K30,000, representing three hundred plus students and the six sub districts associations at UPNG.

“ESA collected donations over a period of three weeks,” he said.

“This timeline highlights the dedication and persistence of our team in gathering resources for those in need,” Tengen added.

He said ESA collaborated with Enga students from other universities, fostering unity and solidarity across institutions.

The president said such partnerships amplify the impact of relief efforts and reflect a commendable spirit of community support.

“The ESA of UPNG spearheaded the drive independently, with the help from UPNG Students Representatives Council (SRC) who played a crucial role in organizing media conferences to raise awareness and encourage donations.”

Mr Tengen expressed his heartfelt gratitude to those who have supported the donation drive undertaken by the UPNG ESA students.

“The collaborative efforts of UPNG Law Students Society, Southern Highlands Students Union, Western Highlands Students Union, Ugbana Students Union, Gute Security Service, Hausman Barber Shop, Repena Barber Shop, Stenford Tali, businesses, individuals, and the general public played a crucial role in the success of this initiative by donating in cash and items.

“Additionally, Child Safe Care’s assistance in transporting the donated items to Enga deserves special recognition.

“Together, you’ve made a meaningful impact on the affected community,” he said.

“The donation drive was initiated with the intention of providing much-needed assistance to the landslide victims in Enga.

“Our presence will undoubtedly make a meaningful impact on the affected community.”
