STEM students complete Pre-Departure training with International Business Training College

ABOUT 54 students who will depart China to study various degree courses under the Government’s STEM program have successfully completed a four-day intensive Pre-Departure Training conducted by the International Business and Technical College (IBTC) at the Edevu Campus outside Port Moresby yesterday.

The training conducted in partnership with AG Investments Limited from September 29 to October 3 aimed at preparing the students on personal development and international travel awareness.

The program was a resounding success, equipping students with essential skills in personal development, problem-solving, effective communication, teamwork, and an introduction to Chinese culture and language.

Over the course of the program, students were fully immersed in camp life, taking part in hands-on activities such as cooking, camping, and hiking excursions, all of which contributed to their growth and readiness for their international studies.

The camp’s unique environment provided an excellent platform for students to learn how to be self-sufficient, work collaboratively in teams, and enhance their capacity to handle real-world challenges. Additionally, the introduction to Chinese culture and language has prepared them to integrate more smoothly into their upcoming studies abroad.

Chief executive officer of IBT College Yunyang Sun said they are incredibly proud of the students’ progress and enthusiasm during the program.

“This training has not only expanded their knowledge but also boosted their confidence in facing the new challenges awaiting them in China,” Mr Sun said.

“The 54 students are now well-prepared for their educational journey to China and we extend our best wishes for their future success.”

National School of Excellence Senior Project and Planning Officer Peter Mai who present at the closing ceremony expressed satisfaction and commendation on the preparatory trainings conducted by ITBC.

“The STEM program is new and I am really impressed with the outcome of this very short preparator trainings organized and conducted for the students.

“We never had such trainings for students going to the United States and with the outcome of this one, I’m see that we need to also conduct similar preparatory trainings for the upcoming STEM students going forward,” Mr. Mai said.

He challenged the student to prioritize their studies and make the government and the country proud.

The students will depart China on the weekend on Saturday and Sunday. A farewell luncheon will be hosted by the Government in Port Moresby on Friday 4th October 2024.
