By ZEBEDEE KUMPIO

IN a significant milestone for Papua New Guinea’s digital future, Prime Minister James Marape officially launched the country’s first-ever Citizens’ eGovernment Portal, a platform designed to streamline citizen access to government services.

The announcement was made by Minister for Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Hon. Timothy Masiu, MP, during the opening address of the 2024 Digital Transformation Summit on Tueday (1st October).

“This portal represents a major step forward in our digital journey, providing citizens with a one-stop access to essential services,” said Minister Masiu.

“As we approach our 50th anniversary, we must reflect on what we’ve achieved and look forward to how we can continue to harness technology to fuel growth and prosperity in our country.”

The eGovernment Portal is one of several initiatives being showcased at the summit, which brings together key stakeholders to discuss how Papua New Guinea can leverage digital transformation.

The portal is expected to enhance efficiency across various sectors, from healthcare to education, improving access to services for citizens in even the most remote regions.

Minister Masiu stressed the importance of collaboration in these efforts. “Partnership and collaboration are the keys to success. The Ministry of ICT, through the Department of ICT, has forged partnerships with key domestic and international stakeholders to ensure sustainability and progress”.

The portal will be launched today by Prime Minister James Marape at the Stanley Hotel Port Moresby.
