Upskilling Teachers: A Key to Achieving Quality Education

UPSKILLING teachers with new skills, knowledge, and technology is crucial for achieving quality education in Papua New Guinea, says Yunyang Sun, founder and Chief Executive Officer of the International Business and Technical College (IBTC).

Mr. Sun emphasized that IBTC, as an institution focused on providing quality business and technical skill training in the country, is committed to offering upskilling programs for teachers to enhance their teaching abilities.

He noted that when teachers are equipped with the latest skills, knowledge, and technology, they can deliver improved lessons that enhance student learning.

Mr. Sun highlighted that IBTC has been tailoring its course programs to address skill and knowledge gaps, particularly emphasizing the need for all high school and secondary school teachers to undergo computer soft skills training.

Recently, 20 teachers from Gordons Secondary School in Port Moresby successfully completed a four-week intensive training program in computer soft skills aimed at improving their teaching competencies.

The course, titled “Essential Computer Skills for Educators,” was specifically designed by IBTC to enhance the teaching skills of educators in the country.

This teacher training initiative was funded by the Port Moresby North East District under the leadership of local MP Hon. John Kaupa.

Upon completion of the program, each participant received a new laptop to assist with lesson preparation and classroom instruction.

Mr. Sun encouraged other schools in the National Capital District and across Papua New Guinea to consider similar training opportunities to enhance teachers’ skills, knowledge, and overall competencies.
