13th December 2024 Commemorates years of careful thought and a significant
milestone towards the fulfilment of public private partnership in the healthcare
industry of Papua New Guinea.
In an effort, to reinvent traditional systems of healthcare delivery that we have grown
accustomed to, Paradise Private Hospital signed a first of its kind Memorandum of
Understanding (MoU) with Port Moresby General Hospital. Embarking these two
institutions down a path of strategic allegiance all with a key focus on providing and
harnessing quality of patient care.
A major objective behind this MOU is to fortify effective sharing of resources
between these two institutions to improve service capabilities and increase capacity
to accomplish auspicious health outcomes for ordinary Papua New Guineans.
Despite economic hardships and gross resource constraints, this partnership is a
totem of vigor and encouragement that leveraging constructive intersectoral
collaboration between stakeholders can bring forth efficacious utilization of resources
for the betterment of our healthcare.
Paradise Private Hospital newly appointed Chief Executive Officer Dr. Polapoi
Chalau stated that this MOU will strengthen the Public Private Partnership which has
been in existence based mostly on professional relationships. A major objective
behind this MOU is to fortify synergy in effective sharing of resources.
The MOU paves the way for innovative and strategic approaches to the services
provided by both institutions.
The Chief Executive Officer of Port Moresby General Hospital Dr. Paki Molumi also
echoed similar sentiments and stated that the partnership will allow the offloading of
cases requiring the use of the Operating Theatres so that the waiting list of patients
requiring operations are reduced significantly.
The Director for Medical Services at Port Moresby General Hospital, Dr Kone Sobi
also highlighted the rate for the utilization of the operating theaters in POMGen at
almost 99-100 percent; however, he pointed out that cancellation rate is also very
high at 25-50 percent, this MOU signed will close off this gap and improve
cancellation rate by having Doctors at POMGen do operations at PPH.
Chairman of Paradise Private Hospital Dr Robin Sios warmly welcome this
partnership and can foresee the future working relationship to be fruitful and benefit
all our Papua New Guineans. We can now provide healthcare pathway for our
people to access the best in country.
