Three-day CPEM meeting underway in Port Moresby

A three-day Conference of Pacific Education Ministers (CPEM) meeting is currently underway at APEC House in Port Moresby.

Attendees of the CPEM meeting are high-level delegates from Pacific region with PNG Education Minister, Hon. Lucas Dekena oversees the meeting as the Chair.

The three-day meeting officially commenced yesterday and is expected to be concluded tomorrow (Thursday March 20).

Department of Education, Dr Uke Kombra gave a rundown of the CPEM meeting, stating the meeting will be a closed-doors one.

“The conference this week is for three days, and Tuesday (yesterday) will be our first day,” he said.

“We are going to have roundtable talks between the ministers and representatives of the ministers,” Dr Kombra said.

“We will give the opportunity for our stakeholders and partners to contribute to the forum. We will listen to what the society is thinking and what we should do.”

The Secretary added that on Wednesday (Today), there will be the official Ministers forum.

“That’s an exclusive meeting between the ministers,” he said.

The programs and events are published online on an application called Whova to access resources regarding the event.

A Samsung Tablet each was distributed to the attendees since the event will be a paperless event.

A press conference is expected on Thursday for the Host Chair of the CPEM to address the media regarding the there-day meeting.

Meanwhile, this paper understands that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is expected to be signed today between the Government of Papua New Guinea and Solomon Island on Higher Education and Human Resource Development Cooperation.
