NCC PROVIDING INTERNSHIP TRAINING TO TERTIARY STUDENTS

The National Cultural Commission is ambitious about equipping the nation’s human resources development through its ongoing partnership with Tertiary Institutions around the country.

In an effort to train, equip and develop human resources, the National Cultural Commission (NCC) has in its corporate structural plan an internship training development program where it engages tertiary students to do their industrial training practice with the commission for a certain period.

The National Cultural Commission established the Internship Training for Tertiary Institutions to send their students for on job training to experience the real-life work ethics and code of conduct within the Public Sector Service.

This establishment has been successful since 2022 till current with over 20 students being engaged to facilitate the Internship/Industrial Training.

Tertiary Institutions such as University of Goroka (UOG), University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG), Pacific Adventist University (PAU), International Training Institute (ITI) etc.… have been sending students for their on-job training to the commission for the past 4 years.

The National Cultural Commission offers,

  1. Allowance for the students during their internship
  2. Certificate of completion accompanied with a Character reference
  3. And a closing farewell celebration to wish them luck in their future endeavors.

Where the possibility lies within the needs of the commission, specific students are recruited to work with the commission to achieve its goals and objectives.

A small but significant farewell ceremony was held at the NCC Head Office in Port Moresby on Monday.  

Mr. David Taim, NCC Executive Manager for Festival, Marketing, Cultural and Arts Industry Development when presenting the two University of Papua New Guinea students with their Certificate and Industrial Training References congratulated them for successfully completing their 14 weeks industrial practice with NCC.

“Now adays most organisations both in public and the private sectors are not accepting students or budgeting for internships but, with NCC we are fortunate that we have a firm management and structure in place where we cater for the student’s internship program,” he said.

You are fortunate for choosing NCC for your industrial practice for the last 14 weeks. I hope it will be quite challenging but it’s good to see your twos finally completed your industrial practice with us and we are proud to issue a certificate and references from NCC.

Hope what you observed and learned here will better equip you with the necessary skills to secure a place somewhere in the future,” said Mr Taim.

“I on behalf of the Executive Director Mr Steven Enomb Kilanda and the staff and management of NCC wish you all the best in your future endeavours,” added Mr Taim.

Nelson Kevin, a final year UPNG Journalism and Public Relations student who spoke on the student’s acknowledged and thanked NCC for giving the opportunity to do their industrial practice with the Commission.

“We have learned a lot of new things during this 14-week training with NCC. The staff and senior officers have been helpful and guided us whenever we needed help, and this is something we will remember for the rest of our life. Thank you, National Cultural Commission.  

Both students will be graduating today (Friday) from the University of Papua New Guinea with a Bachelor Degree in Arts majoring in Journalism and Public Relations from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.
