BASKETBALL Papua New Guinea (BPNG), in partnership with FIBA Oceania, has successfully concluded an intensive three-day strategic planning workshop focused on reflection, reset, and advancing its operational and program delivery frameworks.

Under the leadership of BPNG President David Peter, the federation has continued to build momentum through a focused and forward-thinking approach to basketball development in the country.

With a dual emphasis on athletic performance and personal growth, BPNG’s strategy is grounded in empowering athletes with strong fundamentals and guiding them toward elite levels through collaborative frameworks supported by FIBA Oceania.

A central pillar of BPNG’s long-term vision is its flagship community initiative, Basketball for Good—a platform that uses sport to drive social impact across key areas including education, health and wellbeing, women’s empowerment, and community development.

Key initiatives under Basketball for Good include: Hoops for Health; Pikinini Hoops; Mum’s a Hero; and Twilight Basketball.

Each program is designed to foster inclusive, quality basketball environments while promoting healthier, more connected communities across Papua New Guinea.

As part of the strategic session, FIBA Oceania delegates Mr. Siale Bina Vete and Mr. Lai Pamaua delivered expert guidance on leadership alignment, governance enhancement, and the evolving responsibilities of national federations.

Their guidance reinforced the commitment to strengthening federation management and building sustainable pathways for the sport’s growth throughout Papua New Guinea.

This collaboration is supported by Team Up, an Australian Government initiative dedicated to empowering sports organizations across the Pacific through targeted development and strategic partnerships.
