A total of 300 people of Kaugere community in the Moresby South electorate will receive their land titles.
Foreign Affairs Minister and MP for Moresby South Justin Tkatchenko paid all outstanding fees for the people to get their land titles.
“All the assessments on your individual property have been done, that’s why you and I are here and now finally you all will have your property you’ve been wishing for,” he told them yesterday.
“It is not an easy thing; we are settling what you cannot afford and the outstanding for you and your families.”
“We are going to make sure that all the documents are correct, all the people that are signing the documents are correct, very important because it is your land and your property going forward.
“We will not entertain any corruption or bribery in this area at all, this is for you the people.
“We are not only doing this in Kaugere but we will also give land titles to people of Joyce Bay zones 1-5, Kone and all of Moresby South.”
Housing Minister Dr Kobby Bomareo, who also attended the ceremony, said: “For now we are giving the first five families to sign the contract of sale and the rest will continue on Monday in our office.”
He urged the people of Kaugere to utilize their land to benefit their families.
NHC Managing Director Abel Tol addressed the people’ concerns about housing and land titles.
“We have a lot of issues like people with property having title for nothing so that is why our team from NHC will come to your house and do inspections,” he said.
“To complete the process, sign the necessary documents that NHC officers will bring to you,” Mr Tol said.
