Tsunami Alert: Different Reactions in Vanimo and Nearby Villages

A tsunami warning was shared on social media today, reaching people in Vanimo and nearby villages in West Sepik Province.

The news caused different reactions in different places.

In Vanimo town, people stayed calm. There was no panic and shops stayed open as people went about with their normal daily activities. However, many were aware of the warning and stayed alert in case anything changed.

In Lido village, the reaction was more serious. People quickly packed their things, got into small vehicles, and moved to higher ground. The warning caused worry, and many families did not want to take any risks.

In Waromo village, people also heard the news but stayed calm. They did not run or evacuate. Instead, they watched the sea closely and stayed ready in case they needed to act.

So far, no tsunami waves have been reported. Authorities are still watching the situation. People are advised to stay alert, listen to official updates and be prepared.

Villagers in Lido and Waromo are moving to higher ground for safety.

In Lorengau, Manus Province, the Provincial Disaster Office went around to schools and closed them early.

In Madang town, some guests at the seafront and several members of the PNG Defence Force said no tsunami warning had been issued by local authorities.
