HEALTH Minister Elias Kapavore has urged Papua New Guineans to change their attitude as the country celebrates 50 years of political independence.

“As we are about to celebrate the 50th anniversary, we need to respect. We need to change our mindset,” he said.

“We are saying our national pledge, as we pledge to build a democratic society based on justice, peace, and equality for our people.

“Respect women and children, respect whoever’s with you. They have the right to get services from the government and to live freely.

“I appeal to you all today as we begin to countdown to our 50th anniversary. We need to change our mindset.

“Spitting of betel nut along the roads, throwing rubbish everywhere and swearing on the streets without respect,” Minister Kapavore said.

He added that citizens were blessed to live in a country like PNG.
