PNG Tribal Foundation has supported more than 100 sorcery accusation and related violence (SARV) victims with food rations for the last three months since June, according to its president, GT Bustin.

He said the foundation continued to run its program on feeding SARV victims whose homes, garden food and livestock were destroyed in the Highlands region and Morobe Province.

Mr Bustin confirmed that from June to August, the foundation supported a total of 187 victims of SARV cases in the Sinasina-Yongomugl, Gumine, Kundiawa and Kerowagi districts of Chimbu Province.

In Jiwaka Province, more than 15 people of a longtime SARV case were still in court and in Pangia, Southern Highlands, victims were assisted with food rations.

Mr Bustin revealed that police in Chuave, Chimbu, were investigating the death of a Seventh Day Adventist pastor, who was allegedly killed by villagers for suspected sorcery in Kue village.

He added that Tribal Foundation had also assisted police investigations and would continue to support the victims despite minimal support from the government.

“Government support for Tribal Foundation is needed to continue the work on rescue and support, legal support for police and courts to see more prosecutions in the country,” Mr Bustin said.

Meanwhile, Tribal Foundation has recorded and dealt with 38 SARV cases, 128 arrests made, nine prosecutions, 30 under internal investigation unit investigations for illegal release of suspects in cells, 64 committed to National Court and 14 in district from 2023 to 2025.
