THE People’s Reform Party has appointed East Sepik Governor Allan Bird as their new party leader.

Outgoing PRP leader and Deputy Opposition Leader James Donald acknowledged Governor Bird for joining the party.

“I officially announce that today Allan Bird is the new party leader for PRP.

Mr Donald thanked the executives of PRP for making a tough call.

“It is about dropping our ego and humbling ourselves to serve people.

“I believe in Bird’s leadership, and we will do a better combination.

“Now in PRP, we have three members and I am very pleased to announce,” Mr Donald said.

Mr Bird acknowledged Mr Donald for handing over the party’s reign to him.

“In PNG politics, it’s tough for people who are in a position of leadership to hand over to someone,” he said.

The governor stated his reasons for choosing to join the PRP over any other parties.

“I see PRP’s keen interest in reform, and their policies are courageous in the things they suggest we should do.

“I needed to join a party that would not stand the way of reform that would embrace reform.

“I wanted to join a party that wasn’t from Momase, and I thought that was important for my personal commitment to the country,” Mr Bird said.
