The Member for Kikori District and Minister for Provincial and Local Level Government Affairs, Hon. Soroi Eoe, has presented new uniforms for 167 police personnel serving in Kikori District as part of efforts to strengthen policing and law and order in the area.

The donation, worth almost K96,000, covers long trousers, shirts and boots for regular police officers and Community Police Constables (CPCs) across Kikori, Baimuru and Ihu stations.

Speaking at the handover ceremony in Port Moresby this afternoon, Minister Eoe said the uniforms would restore pride and dignity among officers, many of whom had been serving in worn-out attire.

“Uniform is not only to educate, but it also shows the respect and dignity that we must give to police,” he said. “They play a very important role, often risking their lives. At this period of celebration, they will be at the forefront, ensuring that law and order is observed.”

The donation was formally received by Minister for Police and Regional Member for Bougainville, Hon. Peter Tsiamalili Jr., who commended Kikori DDA for taking responsibility in supporting frontline officers.

“You are showing leadership in your space, and that is what collaboration and partnership in government is about,”

Minister Tsiamalili said. “Almost K100,000 invested into ensuring our men and women are fully dressed to celebrate the 16th of September not only brings dignity to the force but restores the integrity of what they represent the sovereignty of our nation.”

Minister Eoe also announced plans by the Kikori DDA to purchase a police vehicle for the district, noting the urgent need for mobility with the opening of road links to the Highlands creating new law and order challenges.

“As soon as we purchase a vehicle, or if there is a police-issued vehicle available, we will ensure it is fully equipped and donated for use in Kikori,” he said.

Minister Tsiamalili further assured that the police hierarchy would give additional manpower and support to Kikori District in recognition of the local initiative to strengthen policing.

“I will make every effort to ensure that our men and women are allocated accordingly, because where there is initiative, we must complement it,” he said.

The Kikori DDA’s support comes ahead of Papua New Guinea’s 50th Independence Anniversary celebrations, where police will play a central role in maintaining order during the festivities.
