The Teaching Service Commission (TSC) has joined the rest of the world in commemorating World Teachers’ Day 2025 under the theme “The transformation of education begins with teachers”.

In a statement issued by Commissioner Operations, Maini Mike Ugaia, the Commission expressed its deepest gratitude and appreciation to teachers, past and present, for their unwavering commitment to education and nation-building.

“On this International Teachers Day, we express our deepest gratitude and appreciation to all the teachers of the past and present for all they have done and are doing. Your dedication, passion and commitment in shaping the minds and hearts of once a student and for what we are today are truly inspiring and undebatable.”

The TSC highlighted that teachers play a transformative role, not just in classrooms, but in shaping society.

“Today, we recognize that teachers are more than just educators; they are mentors, guides, and the architects of our future. They impart not only academic knowledge but also vital life lessons, instill values, and inspire us to discover our potential.

“In an ever-evolving world, where knowledge is constantly expanding and the demands of society are shifting, the role of a teacher has become even more crucial. They are the ones who adapt their teaching methods to align with new technologies, divers’ e-learning styles, and the unique needs of each student, ensuring that no one is left behind.”

“Teachers work tirelessly with long hours and in all circumstances, showing immense patience, sacrifices, creativity and dedication to help us learn and grow. They go extra mile, adapting to challenges and finding new ways to make learning exciting and meaningful.

“From organizing extracurricular activities that spark creativity to providing additional support for students who may be struggling, their devotion to fostering a nurturing environment is unmatched. We thank them for their unwavering commitment to our education and development, often sacrificing their own time and resources to ensure that we have the tools we need to succeed.

“The influence of a great teacher can never be erased. They empower us to think critically, solve problems, and pursue our dreams, leaving a lasting impact that extends far beyond the classroom. The lessons taught by these remarkable individuals transcend textbooks; they shape our character and help us navigate the complexities of life.

“Teachers set the foundation for success and mold future leaders, making them truly essential members of our society. It is in their classrooms that we learn the importance of perseverance, empathy, and collaboration, lessons that will guide us throughout our lives.”

Mr Ugaia urged all Papua New Guineans to honor teachers every day, not just on World Teachers’ Day.

“Let us take this opportunity to express our deepest gratitude for all that our teachers do. Let us also promise to honor and respect them every day, not just on World Teachers’ Day.

“It is essential that we recognize their efforts, not only through words but also through actions that reflect our appreciation. Whether it’s by participating actively in our education, supporting educational initiatives, or simply expressing our thanks, we can show our teachers that we value their hard work and dedication.

“Happy World Teachers’ Day to all our wonderful teachers. Thank you for your invaluable contributions. You are truly appreciated. Your impact is immeasurable, and the legacy you create will continue to inspire generations to come.

“Let us celebrate you today and every day, for the transformation of education truly begins with you.”
