PNG Power Limited has revealed a 15-year plan to transform the ailing State entity into a reliable and profitable electricity provider, Chief Executive Officer Paul Bayly says.

Mr Bayly told the Petroleum and Energy Conference in Port Moresby this week the plan aimed at strategizing investments, enhancing reliability, increasing capacity, and promoting sustainable energy growth in Papua New Guinea.

“While many factors contribute to our success, the single largest contributor is system reliability, which directly impacts revenue,” he said.

“We need to make adjustments involving personnel, as these changes are crucial,” Mr Bayly said. “We have a very strong human network, and we have not allowed the Rouna system to operate at its full potential.

He added that PNG Power was currently focused on recommissioning Rouna One and Two hydro power facilities, which would have a total capacity of 62.2MW to supply reliable electricity to the National Capital District and parts of Central Province.

“We need to enhance system reliability to boost revenue, which will transform our plan into profitability and improve cash flow,” Mr Bayly said.

He said PNG Power was boosting its graduate training program with 20 graduate engineers.

“Over the last 30 years, we’ve successfully trained graduates who have gone on to work in their first organisation.

“This is not just about the future of our company, it’s also about the future of this country,” Mr Bayly said.
