The creation of the National Monitoring and Coordination Authority (NMCA) is part of the government’s efforts to enhance public sector performance and achieve its development goals, says Chief Executive Officer David Wereh.

“The NMCA is a central agency tasked with several key functions, including monitoring and evaluation, identifying areas for improvement, overseeing government programs, and ensuring accountability and transparency,” he said during the launching of Reset PNG@50 initiative at University of Papua New Guinea yesterday.

“We just started and we are already facing some challenges, the lack of support, lack of commitment to deliver on corporate plans within the overall public servants, which I must admit, does not match the definition of efficient service delivery,” he said.

“We need to be collectively transparent and accountable in a manner to achieve government policies and initiatives to ensure they are positive.

“We believe that by adopting a mindset that prioritises collaboration, results-oriented monitoring and accounts for PNG in the years to come.

Mr Wereh emphasized that NMCA did not duplicate the roles of other existing entities and agencies within the government system.

“We want to assure everybody that we will try our best to improve, increase in the way we manage, we align the budget and implement programs”, he said.
