Kumuls Coach Jason Demetriou says Dudley Dotoi is here for a reason and that is to play.

He said there were no injuries for the boys, yet some of the players need to get the game.

“Dudley is here for a reason so we need to see him play,” he stated.

He said Dudley came into the camp and played a very good game for us in the PM’s XIII so we had 50/50 weather he would play in the first game.

Dotoi had an outstanding season in the Queensland Hostplus cup competition this year and was the try scoring freak for the Townsville Mendi Blackhawks scoring 26 tries in his 22 games.

“He is in form so I think he will show his hand this week and what it makes to him to make his official debut for the Kumuls,” Demetriou said.

After the 40-28 victory over Cook Islands Aitu last weekend, Kumuls are back in camp and are building their energy for the round three match of the Pacific Championship Bowl against Fiji Batis at the Santos National Football Stadium on Saturday.

Demetriou highlighted some of the areas the team was working on to improve from the last game and also announced several changes ahead of the weekend’s game.

“It’s been really good coming off the game and into the camp. You know it’s always challenging when it’s the second week of the game,” he said.

“I think we took some learning out of the game against Cook Island but we need to be better.”

Demetriou said Kumuls would have to correct their errors in terms of ball handling and 55 completion rates.

“I think we controlled the ball better and gave ourselves a chance to score which I am really happy of,” Coach Demetriou said.

He said controlling the ball in the humid climate where the heat is very strong, especially towards the end of the game, was the focus this week as the boys prepare for their match against the Batis.
