The Ministry of Environment, Conservation, and Climate Change has announced that Papua New Guinea will participate in the 30th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP30) to be held from 10 – 21 November 2025 in Belém, Brazil.

Prime Minister James Marape will represent PNG at the World Leaders Summit on 6-7 November, leading up to the main COP30 sessions, says Environment, Conservation and Climate Change Minister Simo Kilepa.

“His attendance underscores our government’s strong commitment to global climate leadership and ensuring that PNG’s priorities are reflected in international outcomes,” Mr Kilepa said.

“As a country rich in biodiversity and natural ecosystems yet highly vulnerable to the effects of climate change, PNG’s participation at COP30 is both strategic and essential.

“Approximately 80 per cent of the delegation registered are self-funded, project-funded or supported by the business community, associations, advocates and private sector representatives. Only 20 per cent are funded by the government.”

Minister Kilepa said PNG continued to champion strong, fair and predictable climate finance for developing nations and remains a voice for vulnerable communities.

“PNG will also host a pavilion at COP30, showcasing our progress in climate action, innovative projects and partnership in sectors such as forestry, oceans, biodiversity, sustainable land use and nature-based solutions,” he said.
