Crocodiles are a constant threat to the people of Aroma Coast in Central Province, especially along the beach.

The beach along Aroma Coast is now becoming the hub of crocodiles with recent report of attacks and something needs to be done or warn people to take precaution when roaming the beach.

According to an Aroma Community leader Avis Vanua, several attacks by the crocodile cannot go unnoticed.

“Yes, the crocodiles made several attacks therefore I came up with this initiative of placing the sign boards to warn people to stay out of danger zones,” he said.

Mr Vanua confirmed that he had approached several relevant Government agencies to provide funding support for the “Beach Crocodile Signage Warning Boards” initiative.

“I am glad to have the support of the National Disaster Centre (NDC), the Disaster Risk Management (DRM) team, PNG Climate Change (PNGCC) and the Central Provincial Disaster and Emergency office. This support has made it possible for me to build and put up crocodile warning signage board,” he said.

Mr Vanua said the signage board would remind the Aroma people to take precaution along the beach. He urged them to look after the signage boards and not to remove it.

The crocodile signage initiative and awareness is supported by the Central Provincial Government through acting provincial administrator Bala Kapa and the East and West Aroma LLG in Abau District.

Mr Vanua said he would also consult PNG CCDA and CEPA to install VHF/UHF radios in Paramana to monitor and report any movements of crocodiles.
