Minister for Foreign Affairs and Moresby South Member of Parliament Justin Tkatchenko has committed to providing assistance in resettling the Eastern Highlands and Chimbu settlers who were evicted from the Rabiagini settlement at 2 Mile this week.

He said the people of Eastern Highlands and Chimbu were hard-working, good and honest, and be resettled in Saraga, Six Mile.

“We’ve been working on resettling the Eastern Highlands and Chimbu communities for the past three years,” Mr Tkatchenko said.

“We were able to acquire land at 6 Mile, Ragamuga, where we subdivided over two to three hundred subdivisions and allocated blocks of land. They will have to pay K20,000 for the title to settle permanently.

“We’ve always had a plan for Two Mile Hill that it will never be permanent in respect to the settlement there, and the Governor, City Hall, and I have been working for many years on how we’ll finally remove the Eastern Highlands and Chimbu communities.

“The police operations that happen at Two Mile are law and order issues, and it’s about keeping our electorate and city safe.

“Removing Rabiagini is not a mistake; Papua New Guineans are sick and tired of these criminal activities, and this area has been a problem from day one,” Mr Tkatchenko said.
