People residing in and around Port Moresby are advised to take note of where evictions will take place this year throughout the city.

The Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police for the National Capital District and Central Provinces, Benjamin Turi, confirmed that his office had been notified that there will be some major eviction exercises happening around the city. He said the evictions will be carried out by landowners or property owners. He also mentioned that police will assist to ensure these eviction exercises go smoothly.

He said some of the locations that he had been notified would have eviction take place include areas at Hohola, Suksuk Tyres Service down to Pitstop, Mobil Service Station, part of Garden Hills, and Six Mile near Saraga Market. He mentioned that these are pending court orders from the National Court, and people residing there are advised that the eviction will still take place, so they must be prepared to move.

“Police will enforce directives from the courts when they see that the documents are genuine and those who seek police assistance provide all genuine legal documents. Talai and Gorobe are next, as these are areas where a new road link will be built that will connect Burns Peak to Koki Market, where NCD Governor Powes Parkop held the groundbreaking ceremony last year. I want to make it clear that the police are working closely with all agencies involved to ensure the eviction exercise is completed successfully. This message is part of police awareness for those residing in the mentioned locations to be prepared for the evictions, ACP Turi said.

He further added that the Two Mile Hill eviction is progressing well, and the next location where police will carry out evictions is the Four Mile Works compound. He said the eviction will start soon, and the police have conducted awareness for those residing at the compound this morning.

Mr. Turi further added that other illegal settlements popping up along drains and in other locations will soon be demolished when the NCDC gives the green light. He said the NCDC is the authority.
