PNG Hekari playmaker Raymond Gunemba has reflected on the team’s performance as they prepare to conclude round two of the OFC Pro League on Saturday.

“I am really proud for the performance of the team today (Yesterday) we are improving bit by bit. I’m happy for the performance but unfortunately it was the VAR’s decision,” he stated.

Gunemba said the Video Assistant Referees (VAR) decision was very disappointing but it is beyond their control.

He stated that for the past three games they have not scored any goals and with the draw with Vanuatu there is some sign of improvement from the team. He added that maybe next game they would improve on that.

“One of the thing is understanding the game of each player. Most of the boys are young players. I am the very senior player so I always try to communicate to make sure they play with me,” he said.

“I think the game is improving bit by bit in every game so I am looking forward for the next game which I am sure the boys will step up.”

By looking at working on the combinations and improving each game, PNG Hekari was faced with another challenge with striker Ati Kepo facing three matches ban after being issued a red card on one of the matches in round one of the OFC Pro League in Auckland, New Zealand. Kepo’s three match ban lapsed yesterday and he is ready to make his appearance when Hekari takes on South Island FC on Saturday the Santos NFS in Port Moresby.

While Ati is set to bring power to the lineup, defender Erick Joe was given two yellow cards in the match against Vanuatu United FC yesterday which putting him in the radar of scrutiny which may cost his game.

Gunemba said it was up to the coaches to decide which players to choose to make the team for their last game of the OFC Pro League round two in Papua New Guinea.
