The Miss Pacific Islands Pageant 2026 is currently underway in Fiji, with Papua New Guinea proudly represented by Miss Bird of Paradise, Iampela Popena.

Fresh from her national crowning in Port Moresby, Popena travelled to Fiji last weekend to take her place among contestants from across the Pacific. She now stands on the regional stage carrying the hopes, pride, and cultural identity of PNG.

As the largest and most culturally diverse nation in the Pacific, PNG’s rich heritage is being powerfully showcased through Miss Popena’s appearance and presentation.

Since her crowning, she has consistently embraced traditional attire that reflects the country’s unique identity, beautifully woven bilum dresses, vibrant colours, and intricate patterns inspired by generations of cultural artistry.

Her outfits symbolize not only the Highlands roots she proudly represents as a 19-year-old Western Highlander, but also the unity of over 800 languages and diverse cultural groups that make up Papua New Guinea.

Through her poise and cultural expression, Popena continues to project the spirit of a united PNG, one people, many tribes, standing together on the Pacific stage.

In a video message shared on the official Miss Bird of Paradise Papua New Guinea Facebook platform, Miss Popena called on all Papua New Guineans to rally behind her and offer their moral support as she competes for the regional crown.

The response has been overwhelming. From the Highlands to Momase, from the Islands to Southern Region, Papua New Guineans at home and abroad have taken to social media to express their encouragement, prayers, and national pride. Messages of support from men, women, and children across all walks of life reflect a nation standing together behind its representative.

Miss Pacific Islands organizers have confirmed via their official platforms that public voting will close on February 6, while the grand crowning night is scheduled for February 14 in Fiji.

As the competition progresses, Papua New Guineans are rallying to support Miss Popena, who carries the Bird of Paradise spirit and the strength of a proud Pacific nation onto the regional stage.
