Education dept introduces “value of the month” integrated curriculum program

EDUCATION Department has introduced a new program called ‘Value of the Month’ a value intergraded curriculum and will be taught in the classrooms to promote positive characters development among students starting this month.

Education Department and PNG Tribal Foundation had developed the program and will be now accessible to all the schools across the country with teachers incorporating monthly values into everyday classroom instruction.

Department of Education Dr Uke Kombra has approved the program yesterday and will be rolled out in all the schools across country.

GT Bustin, President of PNG Tribal Foundation said as the academic year starting, this month’s value is Respecting Time, Respecting People to be taught in the classroom by teachers.

In PNG, time is often flexible “PNG time or wantok time”, but punctuality is a leadership strength. It shows respect, discipline, responsibility, and reliability.

Teaching punctuality equips students with habits that influence academic success, future employment, family life and community leadership.

Senisim PNG, National Coordinator for Education, Manaseh Davey said 10 values are packed in a package and each value will be giving in classroom teaching for students with practical approaching to take.

“It is our second program introduced in schools after the MoU was signed with Education Department last year,” Mr Davey said.

Education Department, Guidance and Counselling Division, Assistant Secretary Allan Jim and Mr Bustin had a virtual meeting with guidance officers from all the schools in the province will start introduce the program in the classroom.

Mr Jim said it is important program and all teachers must take it seriously because today moral values, civics and ethics in schools have died out too.
No values are being taught at homes too and the program will help them grow and be an agent of change for future.
