BUK bilong Pikinini (BbP) has announced a new partnership with global logistics company Blue Water Shipping, following a donation of K32,664.96 to support the delivery of School Library Kits to seven primary schools across Papua New Guinea.

The announcement was formally marked during a visit by Blue Water Shipping’s Papua New Guinea General Manager, Mr Nicholas Walsh, to Buk bilong Pikinini’s Baruni Library Learning Centre in Baruni village, outside Port Moresby. The visit was witnessed by teachers and students, with Mr Walsh also engaging children in interactive activities, including knot-tying, paper boat making and colouring, while sharing insights into the company’s work.

Founded in 1972 in Denmark, Blue Water Shipping is an international logistics and freight forwarding company specialising in customised, end-to-end transport solutions across sea, air, road and rail, as well as port agency services. Through its corporate social responsibility initiatives, the company supports community development alongside its global trade operations.
Founder and Vice Chair of Buk bilong Pikinini, Anne-Sophie Hermann, welcomed the partnership, highlighting the shared values behind the collaboration.
“As someone originally from Denmark, it is incredibly meaningful to see a Danish company like Blue Water Shipping supporting literacy initiatives here in Papua New Guinea,” Ms Hermann said. “This partnership reflects a shared commitment to education, opportunity and community development, and we are truly grateful for their generosity.”

The donation will enable Buk bilong Pikinini to distribute School Library Kits containing high-quality, curriculum-aligned books designed to improve literacy outcomes and encourage a culture of reading among students.

Buk bilong Pikinini is a local non-government organisation specialising in early childhood education and literacy development. In addition to operating Library Learning Centres, the organisation supports schools through its School Library Re-Establishment Program, helping communities rebuild functional library spaces with the support of partners and donors.

Many schools across Papua New Guinea continue to face limited or non-existent library facilities, restricting students’ access to quality reading materials. Buk bilong Pikinini says the latest donation will directly address this gap for seven schools, strengthening reading proficiency, academic engagement and long-term learning outcomes.

Schools wishing to be considered for future support under Buk bilong Pikinini’s School Library Re-Establishment Program are encouraged to submit their details, including school level, location, class numbers, teacher-student ratios and nearest airport. Location and accessibility will be key considerations due to logistical requirements.
