Police Minister Sir John Pundari has called for a strategic partnership with provincial governments and Members of Parliament establish reserve police units in their respective provinces and districts.
“Provincial governments and open members are now urged to liaise into an agreement with the provincial police commanders to establish reserve police,” he said.
Sir John added: “Under this initiative, the RPNGC will sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the provincial governments and open members who are willing to fund training materials in terms of informs, accessories and allowances for reservists.
“This is to ensure that provincial leaders and the open members ease the burden of on the national budget and contribute directly to supporting law and order within their respective provinces whilst increasing police presence within those provinces.”
Sir John also urged the investors and businesses to collaborate with the Royal PNG Constabulary to fund and provide police accommodation as part of their social responsibilities in exchange for better security for their business operations.
“The resource provinces were also asked to help assist in this space, that is to use their loyalties and dividends to build police accommodations and help the RPNGC where necessary.
“Security is everyone’s business in the country, hence we are willing to collaborate with provincial governments, members of parliament, business houses who seriously wants to work with us whilst keeping peace in our communities and the country,” Sir John said.
