COMMISSIONER of Police, David Manning, has confirmed the arrest of a female foreign national in connection with the alleged theft a quarter of a million Kina from her employer, a pharmacy group in Port Moresby.
The Commissioner commended detectives from the National Fraud & Anti-Corruption Unit for their swift action in apprehending a suspect regardless of nationality.
“The arrest serves as a warning that it does not matter if you are local or foreign, the law will be applled equally and if you break the law you will be caught, charged and prosecuted,’ Commissioner Manning stated.
“Police became aware of the suspect after she was alleged to have approached Immigration Officers at Jacksons Airport claiming to have lost her passport and was seeking permission to fly to Manila.
“The suspect’s approach to Immigration Officers was a deliberate act allegedly intended to mislead authorities so to flee the country before the law caught up with her.
“Upon further investigation with the suspect’s employer it became evident that there was a case to answer and detectives took her in for questioning.”
It is alleged that between March to December 2025, the suspect, who had been employed as a Pharmacy Department Manager, dishonestly transferred company funds totalling K249,189.28 into her personal bank account instead of the supplier’s Bank.
The suspect was processed by the National Fraud & Anti-Corruption Unit and detained at the Boroko holding cell The suspect has been charged in connection with financial crimes and will appear before Court.
