THE  Southern Highlands Provincial Government has committed K10 million toward the renovation of the Mendi Provincial Police Station, with K5 million already disbursed and an additional K5 million approved to complete the project.

Provincial Administrator David Kelma announced the additional funding during a presentation in Mendi, attended by Deputy Police Commissioner (Operations) Donald Yamasombi and a project management team led by John Young.

Mr Kelma said the provincial administration was committed to upgrading the police station to an appropriate standard ahead of the upcoming PNG Grassroots Games.

“We want the police station to be in good shape before we host the PNG Grassroots Games,” he said.

The renovation is expected to significantly improve working conditions for police officers and strengthen law and order services across the province.

Community leader Dixie Karinz Pombe also urged Southern Highlanders to maintain peace and take ownership of development projects underway in Mendi town and throughout the province.

Meanwhile, the PNG Games project management team is expected to visit key facilities and project sites where participants will be accommodated and events will be held.
