
The Basketball Federation of Papua New Guinea (BFPNG) has announced that female coached Nape Waka and Fernnimore Salilum will be representing PNG in Honiara, Solomon Islands, from April 21 to 27 this year.
As part of inclusivity, the federation fairly nominate female coaches from four regions. Based upon merit and meeting of criteria, Ms Waka and Ms Salilum were selected by the selectors from FIBA based on the recommendation from BFPNG. Despite short notice from FIBA the Federation invited everyone to apply to apply in line with its objective of promoting, fair, equitable and transparent selection.
Ms Salilum will represent the Mount Hagen and Highlands Region while Mr Nape represent Port Moresby and Southern Region. They have been investing their time, efforts and resources to share the knowledge, skills and passion of basketball in their province in last decades.
The federation also commended the two women on their selection to represent PNG at the prestigious WABC Level 1 Coaching Certificate program.
Ms Nape and Ms Fernnimore will joined other participants across the FIBA Oceania Region from April 21 to 27 in Honiara, Solomon Islands.
This internationally recognized coaching course, delivered under FIBA, will be held in the beautiful Solomon Islands. The program is designed to equip emerging coaches with essential technical knowledge, leadership skills, and modern approaches to the game both on and off the court.

Their journey reflects not only personal achievement but also the increasing recognition of women’s roles in developing the sport nationally and across the Pacific region,” BFPNG said in a media release.
“BFPNG continues to champion the development of women in basketball, with a strong vision to empower more female coaches and leaders. This opportunity marks another important step forward in building a stronger, more inclusive basketball community where women are encouraged to lead, inspire, and shape the future of the game.
“As they prepare to take part in this important program, the entire basketball fraternity in Papua New Guinea stands behind them with pride and support.”
