Barakau Primary School in the Central Province has taken a significant step towards improving teacher welfare and boosting staff morale with the presentation of new staff uniforms to its teachers.

The initiative, led by newly appointed head teacher Mr. Stephen Hare, has been widely praised by staff and members of the Barakau community as a positive move aimed at promoting professionalism, unity, and pride among educators.

A total of 17 primary school teachers and five elementary school teachers received the new uniforms during a special gathering at the school recently. Teachers proudly posed together wearing the uniforms, symbolizing a renewed sense of commitment and teamwork within the school community.

Barakau Primary School currently has a total enrollment of more than 600 students, with 400 students attending the primary section and another 200 enrolled in the elementary division. The growing student population highlights the important role teachers play in ensuring quality education is delivered to children in the community.

For many years, teachers at Barakau Primary School had not received such support or incentives from previous administrations. Staff members expressed appreciation for Mr. Hare’s leadership, saying the initiative has greatly boosted morale and motivation among teachers who continue to play a vital role in shaping the future of young people in the community.

Teachers acknowledged that simple but meaningful incentives such as uniforms can have a positive impact on the teaching profession by encouraging professionalism, improving confidence, and strengthening unity among staff.

Education leaders and parents in the area have also welcomed the initiative, saying quality education begins with motivated teachers. They noted that when teachers feel valued and supported, students ultimately benefit through improved classroom performance, discipline, and learning outcomes.

The presentation of the uniforms comes at a time when many schools across Papua New Guinea continue to face challenges in teacher welfare, school resources, and infrastructure development. Community members said Barakau Primary School’s initiative should serve as an example for other schools and education authorities across the country.

Under the leadership of Mr. Stephen Hare, the school is now focusing not only on academic performance but also on building a positive and supportive working environment for teachers and staff.

Parents and local leaders have commended the school administration for prioritizing teacher welfare and maintaining a strong commitment to improving the standard of education for children in the Barakau community.
