AUSTRALIA is proud to be working together with Papua New Guinea to strengthen health service delivery across the country, including through a recent delivery of essential medical supplies to Western and Milne Bay provinces.
Over the past week, nearly 17 tonnes of medical supplies were delivered to North Fly District in Western Province, with a further two tonnes, including oxygen, delivered to Alotau in Milne Bay.
These deliveries will support the continuity of essential health services for communities in remote and hard‑to‑reach areas, particularly where supply chains are vulnerable.
The supplies were uplifted from the Port Moresby Area Medical Store in Badili and transported by the Royal Australian Air Force to Tabubil and Alotau.
From there, onward coordination and distribution were undertaken to reach a total of 21 health facilities across the North and Middle Fly districts in Western Province and 10 health facilities across Milne Bay.
This logistical effort will help ensure communities continue to have access to essential medicines and medical supplies while supporting frontline health workers to deliver critical services safely and effectively.
These deliveries were made possible through close collaboration between the Australian Government, the National Department of Health, Provincial Health Authorities in Western and Milne Bay provinces, and partners including PNG Sustainable Development Program (SDP) and Ok Tedi Mining Limited.
Each partner played a key role in enabling the safe and timely movement of supplies from Port Moresby to provincial hubs and onward to local health facilities.
The operation reflects the strong and enduring partnership between Australia and Papua New Guinea and a shared commitment to supporting resilient health systems and improved health outcomes for communities across the country.
