Member for Abau, Sir Puka Temu has raised serious concerns over delays surrounding the Papua LNG Project.

Speaking in Parliament, Sir Puka said there had been little to no update from TotalEnergies following Prime Minister James Marape’s recent visit to the country where the company is based.

Sir Puka said he was concerned that some of the country’s major resource projects may not meet the timelines previously announced by Petroleum Minister Jimmy Maladina and the Prime Minister.

He called on the Petroleum Minister to update the country on the current status of the Mailu-1 Petroleum Prospecting Licence (PPL), which is held by TotalEnergies.

Sir Puka also questioned the status of the planned deep-sea drilling program, asking when the drilling ship announced earlier by the government is expected to arrive in Papua New Guinea waters.

He asked the Minister to clarify whether the vessel would still arrive by late June or July as previously indicated.
