GULF POLICE RECEIVE NEW VEHICLES

By CLIFFORD FAIPARIK

POLICE headquarters in Port Moresby has given two vehicles to Gulf Police to boost their efforts in enforcing law and order in the province.

Superintendent Dominic Kakas from the Police Commissioner’s office in Konedobu said that these vehicles were given to the Gulf Police under the kina for kina arrangement.

The arrangement is made the provincial Governors and district MPs to provide vehicle to their respective district and Provincial Police Commands.

He said the police headquarters would give one vehicle or more depending on how many vehicles the Governors or MPS have given.

“So, for this arrangement, the Gulf Governor Chris Haiveta was supposed to give two vehicles before we give two vehicles.

“But Haiveta didn’t come back to us despite making numerous assurances that he will fulfill his part of this arrangements.

“So instead of waiting for Haiveta, we gave two vehicles and later Haiveta can fulfill his promises,” Kakas said.

Kakas said that under the kina to Kina arrangement, the police headquarters had delivered vehicles to police in Namatanai (New Ireland Province), Kandep (Enga Province) and other districts and provinces throughout the country.

He also urged the Gulf Police Commander Chief Inspector Jeffery Lemb to look after these vehicles so that they would last longer and serve their purposes.

“We have problems with mismanagement of vehicles leading to vehicle damages which set back police service,” he said.

Chief Inspector Jeffery Lemb thanked the Commissioner’s office for these vehicles and hoped that Haiveta meets his commitment.

“These vehicles are timely as we will need it for pre-election operation,” Lemb said.
