Central HQ to relocate

By JOE GURINA

THE Central province assembly has approved the relocation of its headquarters from Konedobu to Waigani.

This was a resolution passed at the provincial assembly meeting last week in which K2million was approved for the relocation exercise.

The establishment of the new provincial office building and a facelift of the area is proposed near the National Identity Office (NID) at Waigani in Port Moresby.

Central Governor Rufina Peter said the investment was a priority to improve the workplace environment and improve the service delivery mechanism.

She said the workplace environment currently at Konedobu was unacceptable which was a priority her government under her leadership is adjusting.

She says the objective behind the facelift and relocation was to promote the approach of community driven development and ward development planning.

She added that this would improve access to quality basic services and community governance in the province.

She said it was also part of the intervention for the province to see local level governments (LLGs) see as one stop centers.

This would include council chambers and offices, data centers, work stations forward recorders, distance education centers, conference rooms

The state of the building was made known during Peter’s consultation with staff this month.
