Governor General’s term to expire in two months

By CLIFFORD FAIPARIK

GOVERNOR General Grand Chief Sir Bob Dadae‘s five year term will officially expire in two months’ time and is now awaiting the Government’s decision, Official Secretary to the Governor General’s Office Bill Torraso says.

“Sir Bob was appointed as the 10th Governor General on 28 February 2017, and his term expires in 28th February 2023. He is now awaiting the National Government’s decision whether he will continue or not,” Torraso said.
“However, the Prime Minister James Marape during his courtesy call at the Government house on 02/11/22 made mention to Sir Bob that both of them will go to England for the coronation ceremony of King Charles III in June 2023. This is the inauguration ceremony when Prince Charles will be crowned to become King Charles III. How does that add up, I don’t know as Sir Bob’s term will be up by the prior to King Charles III coronation ceremony?”

Torraso said that Sir Bob has expressed interest to continue if the National Parliament decides if he continues.

“In his term Sir Bob has improved the physical nature of the Government House. He has brought back some integrity, importance and tradition to the Government House.  The improvement to the facilities here are the construction of the perimeter fence from an eye sore corrugated iron sheet to now the steel bars. New staff houses were built and two are already been occupied.  Another six houses will soon be occurred in two weeks’ time. Path ways and gardens have been improved. And if he continues he will build a new Government house.  The current building will be converted into a museum, and a cultural center. Old news articles and photos of activities that were done in this Government since 1911 will be framed and hanged in this house,” he added.
