Under its 2024 Community Project Initiative, the BSP’ Group Compliance Division has extended crucial support to St. Therese Clinic, reaffirming BSP’s commitment to fostering prosperity through addressing vital community health care needs.
Established on the 21st of February, 1971, the St Therese Clinic recently celebrated 54 years of dedicated service to the Port Moresby community.
In 1973, the obstetrics unit which now Jubilee Catholic Secondary School occupies was transferred to the Port Moresby General Hospital, transitioning the clinic to focus on family life services.
Despite periods of transition and challenges, the clinic has been steadfast in providing primary health care services. In 2011, the Catholic Church partnered with the government to reopen and expand the clinic’s operations, strengthening its role as a cornerstone of the community’s health care system.
In 2021, Family Health International (FHI) integrated gender-based violence (GBV) services into the clinic, marking a significant milestone in combating GBV within the community.
Recognizing the importance of these services, BSP’s Group Compliance Strategic Business Unit, through its Community Project Initiative assisted by donating medical equipment, stationery, tables, chairs, a laptop, a printer, and a refurbished GBV room within the clinic.
Boio Morea, BSP Group Compliance Executive Assistant, highlighted the significance of this initiative,
“Our projects showcase our dedication to meaningful community engagement. St. Therese Clinic represents resilience, and we are honored to support their efforts in providing vital services to the community.”
Catholic Archdiocese of Port Moresby Health Manager Sister Geraldine Arua expressed her heartfelt gratitude, emphasizing the importance of the assistance provided.
“With BSP’s support in refurbishing this room, we are not only enhancing our facilities but also strengthening the vital services we provide to the community. This assistance is a beacon of hope for those we serve, and we are deeply grateful to BSP and all involved for their commitment to making a difference,” Arua said.
BSP continues to demonstrate its commitment to creating lasting positive change through strategic partnerships and impactful community projects. By investing in initiatives that empower individuals, enhance local infrastructure, and address critical social challenges, BSP strives to uplift lives and build stronger, more resilient communities across the region.
