Member for Kerowagi Open Hon. Francis Kikin Siune and his DDA representatives launched the official website for the inaugural edition of Kerowagi Cultural Show at the parliament house in Port Moresby last week.
This significant occasion marks a milestone for the district in a long time, as they work towards digitalizing all functionalities and departments in the District Development Authority.
Mr. Siune while addressing the media mentioned that his regime is taking the lead in transforming Kerowagi into a model district in Simbu Province.
“We are aiming to showcase and promote the diversified culture of Kerowagi District to a wider global audience, while empowering economic activities within the district.”
He emphasized that the cultures in Papua New Guinea is disintegrating with time but the website can play a much significant role to our younger generations growing up in the district as we are in a progressive digitalized world.
“As the website is giving a different perspective all-together to PNG Culture, it can also be used as an archive for preserving culture and tourism that can be foretold to the next generation.”
He said that their main objective is to sell their artifacts, crafts, paintings, traditional bilas costumes, and many other valuable cultural and tourism products to an open global market.
The MP further stressed that the website will enable audience and tourism partners to have access on information of the show and the wide range of products in Kerowagi anywhere in the world.
“Bookings and reservations to attend the show can be done online in advance, as we work towards affiliating all mini cultural festivals in Kerowagi as subsidiaries to the major event.”
Mr. Siune further thanked his DDA team, the National Cultural Commission and all other stakeholders for taking an excellent initiative to build and launch the website.
With the show being scheduled to happen from October 31st to November 02nd , the local MP concluded by announcing that a fundraising dinner will be held before the next parliament sitting, to cater financial support in hosting the first ever Kerowagi Cultural Show in the district.
