Mt. Hagen Cultural Show Continues to thrive with strong community support

Mt Hagen Cultural Show is set to take place on the 17th-18th of August 2024, it is one of the oldest shows in Papua New Guinea, and it has been celebrated for over 5 decades (more than 50 years). The Mount Hagen Show gathers singsing groups from all over the country, creating a lively and captivating celebration of color, beauty, and cultural heritage.

On August 15, 2024, the Mt. Hagen Show committee held a brief media conference at Mt. Hagen Queens Park. During the event, sponsors from the National Cultural Commission, Investment Promotion Authority, Air Niugini Px Hagen, and Digicel Mt. Hagen presented their cheques to the committee.

The event featured several key figures: Mrs. Geno Reuben, Festival and Events Manager at the National Cultural Commission (NCC), who represented Executive Director of NCC Mr. Steven Enomb Kilanda; Mr. Joshua Jerry, Highlands Regional Manager for the Investment Promotion Authority; Mr. Richard Lazarus, Executive Manager of Commerce and Tourism in Western Highlands Province; Mr. Kially Polau, Sales Manager for Air Niugini in Hagen; Mr. Eddie Paraka, Marketing Manager for Digicel Hagen; and Mr. Pym Mamindi, Chairman of the Mount Hagen Cultural Show.

Mrs. Reuben thanked and appreciated the hard-working committee of the Mt. Hagen cultural show for their passion and commitment to the show.

She said, “Mt Hagen cultural show is an ongoing show and has grown so much over the years, as a government agency National Cultural Commission aims to promote, preserve, and protect our tangible and intangible cultural heritage.”

The National Cultural Commission Presented a cheque of K10,000 to the show committee in showing the organization’s support to the event.

Digicel showed its support for the Mt. Hagen Cultural Show by presenting a cheque for K15,000, which included K5,000 in cash and K10,000 in kind. The Investment Promotion Authority and Air Niugini PX Hagen each contributed K5,000 through their cheques.

Mr. Pym Mamindi, Chairman of the Mt. Hagen Cultural Show, expressed his gratitude to the National Cultural Commission and all other sponsors for their support in hosting the event.

He said, “The show is not just for tourists; it’s for everyone in the Western Highlands and across the nation. It’s a chance for younger generations to understand our culture, the Western Highlands, and PNG as a whole. This event helps us showcase who we truly are.”
