This ambitious plan follows the successful acquisition of a vital shipment of traditional shells from the Solomon Islands, securing the physical foundation for the future.
Fresh from this mission, Festival Chairman Richard Tapil Jnr will return to PNG on Thursday to declare the 2025 event for exploring tabu’s potential as a sovereign Tolai cryptocurrency.
This digital vision is central to the festival’s powerful theme: “Kada Tabu Anilaun-Our Shellmoney for Sustainability and Survival.”
This initiative will move to its next phase. Chairman Tapil expressed deep gratitude to the corporate sponsors who made initial pledges at the recent East New Britain fundraiser.
He now urgently calls on those early champions to formally meet their commitments, as their immediate backing is the essential catalyst needed to turn this historic vision into reality.
Pointing out the profound cultural significance of tabu, chairman Tapil recounted that this was used by ancestors to purchase the first Bible in 1884.
He stressed its enduring power by invoking an ancestral prophecy; “Tabu will fade away once all tolai are killed”.
The grand point of this journey will be the Famous ENB Tolai Shellmoney Festival, a celebration of culture and unity from September 16th-19th at the Navunaram Sports Field.
