There is an undercurrent issue of young girls or child trafficking, an official says.
This was the concern by the National Office of Child and Family Services, Simon Yanis.
He said there are many underage girls being abused, exposed and exploited for the best interest of money.
Yanis said this is an open development agenda where the basics are not at work and his is worried of what will happen to the young children at the end of the day.
“For instance, a Chinese can go down to a village in Central Province with a bag of money and recruit young girls and tell them to stand at shops and make money by exploiting them on child labour and underpaying them without addressing the minimum wages level,” he said.
Yanis said the way forward now is for the Government to empower and resource the National Office of Child and Family Services to do more studies to go down to the villages and make a research or survey to identify how many girls are coming to the city to be employed.
“What we want to do here is, are there compliance for those girls on the minimum wages and do they have an employment association to protect their rights,” Yanis said.
