17-YEARS OLD BOY AMONGST SIX OTHERS ARRESTED FOR IN POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA

A 17-Years old boy from Goilala was amongst six other male adults who were arrested by the National Capital District Commission (NCDC) police units at Eight Mile roundabout along the Hubert Murray Highway on Wednesday last week for having in their possession 27.1 Kilograms of marijuana.

According to NCDC police officers, it was alleged that the marijuana was transported in ten seaters with the occupants who were all from Goilala. The police officers who were doing motorist patrol in the city were also doing random stop searches of vehicles when they sighted the huge amount of marijuana that was neatly packed and loaded in the vehicle. They are now charged and detained in the cell at Boroko Police station.

Acting National Capital District Metropolitan Superintendent Mazuc Rubiang had thanked the police officers, capturing the seven with that amount of marijuana. He said since the introduction of Drunk Patrol in the city police officers were on motorist and also foot patrol in the city that had deterred crimes from happening.

He said the number of serious crimes that were usually reported during the weekends had also dropped, and he wants the officers to continue the same.

“Police have the power to stop anyone at any time when they think the person is about to commit an offence, is committing an offence, or has committed an offence. The random stop and searches of the vehicles done by the police in the city by the police officers had deterred accidents, robberies, and other serious crimes from happening. The drunk patrol that the police officers do in the settlements also prevents people from disturbing others.

He said police will continue to do the same into the festive season and had called on the public to support the police to make NCD a safe place for all to leave.

Supt Rubiang said police are doing their best and want the public to assist by following the simple laws and city rules that are in place. He said many people are law-abiding citizens living in the city, but only a few are still disobeying the
