THE 2024 Digital Transformation Summit officially commenced today at the Stanley Hotel in Port Moresby.
The summit is an annual event and will run for three days with a theme of: “Navigating Transformation towards 50 years and beyond: Collaborative governance & Innovations”.
Minister for Information and Communication Technology, Hon. Timothy Masiu, who officiated at the opening ceremony of the summit, highlighted important key points of the Digital Transformation under this year’s theme of the summit.
He said the summit is aimed at promoting progress and change within the country.
“This annual event has been designed to be our platform for exchanging of ideas and to learn from each other on how best we can leverage digital transformation as a catalyst to fuel growth and prosperity across all sectors of our country,” Minister Masiu said.
He further stressed on collaborative governance and innovations that can be utilized as a catalyst on making decisions and discussions.
Masiu said with the Information Communication Technology, this can all be integrated to achieve growth and progress.
Whilst it is a collective effort, the Minister highlighted the idea of forging partnership and making collaborations with other valuable organizations.
“Partnerships is essential for sustainability and progress of major digital programs and initiatives that we are implementing at this juncture,” said Minister Masiu.
He stated that in the last three years, his team has been able to bring in connections of different stakeholders, both domestically and international to ensure that their project come to its success.
Masiu also announced the ICT department’s intention of unveiling the new corporate plan 2023-2027, and rolling out a restructure of the department with more concentration and focus on industrialization, cloud technologies, Cyber security and electronic safety.
He said the new corporate plan will allow for the Department of ICT to push for more improvement on global rankings and development indicators in the digital space.
“We did this because we want the people to be part of what we are doing and this new one we are launching today will give us the prominence to move forward.”
Meanwhile, Minister Masiu announced the launching of the first citizen’s E- Government Portal that will be done towards the end of the summit which is a milestone in their digital journey.
“The world is moving into technology, and we must move along otherwise we might be left behind.”
