Agarobe: Kairuku-Hiri electorate split is long overdue

THE split for Kairuku-Hiri electorate is well over due and this must be deliberated in the upcoming August parliament sitting for it to have two separate electorates, says Central province Governor Robert Agarobe.

Agarobe said the four categories of splitting the Kairuku-Hiri electorate are very much in place and that is population density, physical features, district headquarters and communications, as highlighted by Electoral Boundaries Commission.

With all the four categories showing very clearly on the ground, these should already effect the split that was presented by President for Hiri Local Level Government, Haoda Rogea during a recent concluded forum at Mirigeda.

Mr Agarobe said on top of the four categories there should be an understanding sought for the traditional and customary ways of living to also appreciate the differences between the people of Kairuku and Hiri.

“I also want to remind our people, that our system of government is all about equal distribution of services, goods and services have to be distributed equally to our population in the two districts of Kairuku and Hiri, and it depicts what the four categories are as presented by Electoral Boundaries Commission, that is the reason why split in Kairuku and Hiri is well overdue,” said Agarobe.

He said if the Kairuku-Hiri electorate is separated he recommends that Sogeri be made a district township for Hiri.

He told Kairuku-Hiri people at Mirigeda that issues affecting Central province is administrative and electoral boundaries is one of the issues that they are now undertaking.
